Police in Masindi is investigating the circumstances under which a police constable committed suicide on a tree.
On Friday morning, the lifeless body of Mugenyi Kandoole, Number 54802 was found dangling on a tree near Masindi Central Police station in an act of suicide.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says the deceased was found hanging using his shirt by his colleagues at CPS.
Hakiza says the colleagues immediately rushed and pulled the lifeless body from the tree, which was later conveyed to Masindi general hospital mortuary.
Locals claim the deceased has always been a friendly officer and someone of sound health. Some who spoke on condition of anonymity said he was recently dumped by his girlfriend, who was having an intimate relationship with another man.
Kandoole, reportedly confided in a colleague that his ego was messed with as a respected person in society.
Ronald Businge, the Mayor Masindi Municipality says, it is unfortunate that the officer has mysteriously ended his life and they will dig further to establish the circumstances around it.
