Security forces have netted Twelve suspects from Kawempe and Wakiso for illegal power connections and vandalizing electricity equipment.

These arrests follow a joint operation between the Police, Military, and Umeme in Kampala.

Nine suspects were picked up from the lower Nsooba zone in the MulagoII-Kawempe division while others are from Gganda-B Nansana, Wakiso district.

Security operatives also recovered electrical equipment from a suspect's shop in Nansana.

Claire Nabakka, the Deputy Police spokesperson, says that among the recovered electrical appliances are high voltage wires, insulators, poles, and safety helmets.

“We would like to warn those who masquerade to be selling electrical equipment and appliances, yet their major business is to deal in vandalized equipment from communities. The operations are continuing and we shall come for them," Nabakka said.

Stephen Ilungole, the Spokesperson at Umeme, says they have realized more cases of vandalism to electricity infrastructure and illegal connections with Kampala Metropolitan areas.

He says illegal connections cause huge losses to the company while vandalism affects the entire national economy. He says the suspects will appear in the courts of law for their illegal actions.
