The Police in Arua are holding a 32-year-old man for attempting to set himself on fire at the entrance of the Arua Central Police Station this morning.

The man identified as Benard Andama a resident of Ekalio cell in Ayivu Division was rescued by police officers manning the main entrance of the central police station, while in possession of a lighter and a container filled with petrol.

Andama had started pouring petrol all over himself. However, in the ensuring scuffle at least two police officers sustained injuries after the suspect bit their hands in an attempt to resist arrest.

The District Police Commander Arua Central Police station Jude Nasucha confirmed the incident saying the suspect will be subjected to medical examination, to ascertain his mental status.

According to Jackson Okuonzi the father of the suspect, although their relationship has been good for the last three days, his child has been troublesome towards him and some members of the community. 
Okuonzi says that his son attempted on several occasions to set his grass thatched house ablaze.

Family members say this is not the first time the suspect is attempting to end his own life.
