The police divers have recovered the body of Robert Kaweesi, a Briton of Ugandan origin who drowned in River Nil at Pakwach on Wednesday.

Kaweesi, 48, together with his family of four went swimming in a restricted part of the river on 17th August 2022 when his 12 year old son was hit by waves and called for help.

This prompted him to jump into the water with an intention of saving his son. Unfortunately, he drowned while the child was saved by another swimmer.

Kaweesi, together with his family members and a driver had just checked in at Gipir and Labongo Safari Lodge located along the bank of River Nile in Pakwach town council.

Josephine Angucia the Police Spokesperson for West Nile says Kaweesi’s body was retrieved from the river this morning by police divers after days of search.

She says that the body was conveyed to Pakwach health center for postmortem.

The deceased’s brother of Peter Kibirango, has commended the police for retrieving the body. Adding that the incident happened just few days after Kaweesi held his wedding on August 6, 2022.
