The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have on Tuesday confirmed that a gun attack in Ntoroko District that left over 11 people dead was carried out by Allied Democratic Force(ADF) rebels.

A gang of about 30 ADF fighters who entered the country from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) raided Kyobe and Kayanja II Villages in Bweramule Sub County, Ntoroko District, Ntoroko District borders the DRC to the west.

The early morning attack left two locals dead and another injured, however, eleven rebels were killed by UPDF soldiers.

According to Defence Spokesperson Felix Kulayigye, the rebels crossed through the River Semuliki.

“A total of 11  SMGs and one PK gun have been charged by the ADF whereas one of our soldiers was killed in action. The operation is ongoing,” — Brig Kulayigye said.

Currently, the UPDF has deployed soldiers in Congo under "operation Shujja" to work with the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo(FARDC) in demolishing ADF bases.

Among the ADF bases in DRC include Yayuwa, Tondoli, Beni One, and Beni Two among others. The government has accused ADF rebels of being behind strings of suicide bombings in Uganda.
