The State Minister for Labour, Charles Engola, was fatally shot by his bodyguard in an incident that occurred in Kyanja on Tuesday morning.

The Uganda Police Force has confirmed that the State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Charles Okello Engola, was shot at close range by his bodyguard, Private Wilson Sabiti. 

Police Spokesperson Fred Enaga stated during a media briefing this afternoon that the incident occurred on Tuesday at Engola's residence in Kyanja, where he was entering his vehicle to go to work at 8:00 am.

Enaga revealed that Sabiti fired multiple shots at close range, killing Engola instantly before fleeing the scene. He proceeded to the trading center at Kyanja Ring Road, where he entered a salon and shot himself dead. 

Engola's ADC, Ronald Otim, was also severely injured during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital.

The police are yet to establish the motive behind the shooting and have dispatched a team of detectives to the crime scene to carry out further investigations.
