The Commission has this afternoon released an update to the entire country on preparations for the General Elections 2016 scheduled to start next week Thursday 18th February 2016.
Commission’s chairman Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu also officially unveils a dummy of the ballot paper indicating the line up of the Candidates for Presidential elections as they will appear on the ballot paper.
According to Dr. Kiggundu, campaign meetings/rallies organized by candidates contesting for Presidential, Parliamentary and Local Government Councils Elections have been going on in various electoral areas across the country, and have largely been peaceful.
He says the Commission appreciates the general public, candidates, their agents and supporters, for responding positively to our call to embrace tolerance and reject violence during the campaigns and beyond.
Please keep this spirit of tolerance throughout the electoral period and beyond, for the good of our country. “However, as the Election day draws closer, most of the Presidential Candidates are currently campaigning within and around Kampala Districts.
The Commission therefore calls on the Candidates, their agents and supporters to remain peaceful and tolerant of one another for these remaining days.” He also says they have noted that, some Candidates have been in the habit of not strictly adhering to the legal requirement of closing their campaigns at 6pm, warning that the Commission will deal with them accordingly.
