Female members of parliament are demanding a public apology from government critic Charles Rwomushana for labeling them prostitutes.

While appearing on local broadcaster NBS TV show, frontline, Rwomushana was quoted saying all female MPs are prostitutes. This did not go down well with Lira Woman Member of Parliamen Hon. Joy Atim Ongom who said such utterances are demeaning.

Hon. Atim told parliament this afternoon that Rwomushana’s utterances are derogatory, scandalous and that Rwomushana should withdraw the statement publicly.

In response, information Minister Hon. Frank Tumwebaze said that he has instructed the Uganda communications commission UCC, to investigate the matter.

However, the Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanya said there is no need for investigation in this case but action must be taken. He added that the right to freedom of speech does not give individuals the right to abuse others.

In turn, Hon. Tumwebaze promised to make a statement to the House on Thursday on the actions taken by the UCC.
