The ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party candidate Samuel Keddi, has beaten all odds to become first LCV Chairman of the newly created Butebo district.

Keddi who received massive support when president Museveni campaigned for him last week, won polls held on Thursday with 17,554  votes against 9,765 by his sole rival, James Okurut, an independent candidate.

Rashid Musinguzi, the Butebo District Returning Officer declared him victor this morning.

While delivering his victory speech, an excited Keddi promised to work for the party and delivered all its promises to the people of Butebo.

“We want to thank Butebo people for what they have done; they have just demonstrated that the only government that can give services to the people is NRM party. One of the things we want to do is make sure there is unity and then development in Butebo,” he said.

The NRM deputy Treasurer Kenneth Omona, bragged about the victory, arguing that NRM candidates winning the elections shows that NRM is popular in Uganda.

“This is a very good opportunity for us NRM to serve the people of Butebo. It is also true that we have not seen FDC participate in this election. This shows that it is NRM that is still popular in Uganda” Omona said.

There is however reports that Keddi’s supporters beat up five members of Okurut’s camp and they are all admitted at Butebo Health Centre IV after sustaining injuries.

The injured have been identified as Moses Nyeba, the sub-county supervisor for Kanginima, Joshua Dimiti, 34, polling agent for Kasupet, 34 years, Francis Omuron, 29, Swaliki Opolot, 26, and Christopher Magoola, 32.

District Police Commander, Butebo Twaha Buyinza, says police is carrying out investigations over the incident.
