Stephen Keshi has been sensationally sacked as the coach of the Super Eagles after a spate of bad results in the on-going Caf/Orange Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Former Super Eagles coach Shuaibu Amodu will take over from Keshi and he will be assisted by Gbenga Ogunbote to see out the remaining qualifying games away to Congo and home to South Africa
The former Togo coach, who was handed the reigns in November 2011 and won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, was relieved off his duties on Thursday morning despite leading Nigeria to a 3-1 win over Sudan hours before the announcement.
Nigeria lost 3-2 to Congo in Calabar and played out a goalless draw with South Africa in Cape Town. A 1-0 reversal in Khartoum last weekend, which sent Nigeria to the bottom of the group, was the final nail in Keshi's coffin.
The Nigeria Football Federation also revealed that after the qualifiers, a foreign coach will be brought in to lead the Super Eagles.
A statement released by the Executive Committee of the NFF read thus "However, in the interest of Nigeria football and the desire to ensure qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals, the Committee decided to relieve them of their duties with immediate effect.
This will be Shuabu Amodu's fourth stint at the national team coach after taking charge in 1994, 2001 and in 2010.
Nigeria, with two games remaining - away in Congo and at home to South Africa - are third in Group A of the final round of qualifiers for the 2015 Afcon.
Meanwhile, Samson Siasia was appointed the coach for the Under-23 team and he will be assisted by Fatai Amoo.
