Shock gripped the Uganda Rugby fraternity on Thursday on learning the death of Rugby hero and ace Henry Rujumba that occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Several messages including some from major clubs, Kobs and Pirates, players and enthusiasts trickled in on social media following the breakout of the sad news wishing the fallen to rest in peace.

Rujumba, who had retired, having played for rugby premiership side Pirates in the early 2000's and the Uganda national Rugby team reportedly collapsed at Kampala University campus where he has been a lecturer.

Post mortem results are yet to be released to establish the cause the death but according to Pirates' twitter handle, the body of the late will be leaving for FortPortal on Friday and shall be laid to rest on Saturday ,January 17 2015.

This weekend's Nile Special rugby Premiership encounter between Kobs and Pirates at Legends Rugby Grounds has been deemed as one that will be played in memory of Henry Rujumba.

Who was Henry Rujumba?

Rujumba was a product of Ntare School, and played for Uganda Rugby Premiership side Black Pirates.

Rujumba was a member of the national sevens that toured Kenya in 1998.

Rujumba was renown for the tackling ability and an excellent local rugby brain.

Tall and vigilant he was, with blistering pace capable of steering any team to victory.

He played three positions at Black Pirates the period he spent at the club - Lock, flanker and winger.

The late was also part of the legendary Rugby Cranes squad that won CAR Tier II.

They thumped Botswana (56-07) in a one-sided final at the KRUFC to claim the honours.

The 2002 Rugby cranes to which he belonged to twelve years ago also beat Cameroon (25-13) at KRUFC and Kenya (29-21) for the first time ever in the CAR tier II.
