Onyango has been named the best player on the continent (Based in Africa) for his stellar displays for both Mamelodi Sundowns and Uganda in the past 12 months
This was at the glamorous awards night held at the International Conference Center in Abuja on Thursday night.
The Uganda international beat off stiff competition from teammate Khama Billiat and TP Mazembe and Zambia international Rainford Kalaba, accumulating 252 votes in the process.
Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes beat DR Congo and Senegal to the team of the year award after a clinical year of breaking the 39 year of jinx after failure to return to the continental showpiece.
