A seven member team of the Uganda Cranes has Friday arrived in Cape Verde ahead of the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier to take place on Saturday starting at 7.30pm
Only seven players made the trip on Friday, while the others will travel on Saturday morning due to reported flight challenges from Senegal where the team has been camped.
Fufa media officer, Nsereko Kawuma Afriquana explains that the players who traveled on the first batch include; Emmanuel Okwi, Muhammad Shaban, Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Robert Kakeeto, Derrick Nsibambi, Isaac Muleme and Bernard Muwanga.
The team traveled through Ethiopia where they played an international friendly against the hosts on June 3rd before they battle Senegal on June 6th in Dakar. The two matches all ended goalless.
But head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic has maintained that this arrangement will not affect his players and they will remain focused. "The two build-up games have helped us get better ahead of the Cape Verde game," the Serbian born coach said.
The other nations in Group L of the qualifiers include Tanzania and Lesotho. Sredojevic led the national team to qualification for the 2017 Afcon in Gabon after the team's last appearance in 1978 in Ghana.
