Alex Luwemba Luswa, also known as Muhammad, has confirmed that he will be contesting for the Kawempe North MP seat as an independent candidate.
Luwemba, who was a personal assistant to the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, says the people of Kawempe North have urged him to run for the position.
He believes there is a gap in leadership and considers himself the only formidable candidate to fill it at this time.
"I am officially running as an independent candidate. The people have asked me to contest, and they will support me. I am here to fill the gap," he explained in an interview with a local television station.
Luwemba says he remains a member of the National Unity Platform despite running as an independent and vows to celebrate with the party if he wins the by-election in March this year.
Other reports suggest that Alex Luwemba is being sponsored by Democratic Alliance boss Mathias Mpunga and his camp.
