Alex Muhangi has responded to Bebe Cool through his lawyers, Elgon Advocates, and says he doesn't owe Bebe Cool anything as per the claims.
Muhangi explained that he posts the performances of all artists at the event, and this is a company policy accepted by everyone who has performed at Comedy Store.
He adds that the posting of Bebe Cool's performance videos on YouTube is only for promotional purposes and nothing more.
“Our client owes nothing to Bebe Cool in the terms claimed in your demand notice. Whereas it is true that our client posted videos of Bebe Cool recorded at the show, it was only done for promotional purposes and not for monetary gain,” part of the statement read.
In February this year, Bebe Cool moved to demand over Ugx 579 million from Alex Muhangi for alleged illegal content distribution.
The Gagamel boss, through his legal team R.S.K Associates, issued an official letter to Alex Muhangi accusing the comedian of unlawfully distributing and broadcasting his performances on his platforms, specifically NTV Uganda and YouTube, without paying for the rights or seeking the singer’s consent.
According to Alex Muhangi, the matter will be coming before the KCCA court tomorrow morning, and he asked his fans to stand in solidarity with him.
