For almost a year now, Commissioner of Parliament Mathias Mpunga and National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, have been at odds.
Their relationship soured after the NUP President accused Mr. Mpunga of misappropriating public funds when he allegedly awarded himself 500 million Uganda shillings, along with three other parliamentary commissioners from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Mr. Mpunga was removed from his position as Leader of the Opposition in Parliament by the NUP President, and he was also dismissed from his leadership role within the party in the Central region.
Mr. Mpunga has now accused Mr. Kyagulanyi of obstructing his attempts at reconciliation within the National Unity Platform.
"I wrote to the leading opposition party, NUP, requesting a meeting. I have not received a reply. However, I saw their Secretary General personally criticizing me. I believe he does not fully understand the gravity of the situation," he explained in an interview with NBS Television.
Mr. Mpunga also accused Mr. Kyagulanyi of inciting hatred against him in Uganda, alleging that Mr. Kyagulanyi organized a concert to denounce his actions.
"Honorable Kyagulanyi made me the focus of a concert. He held press conferences about me. I have never seen him do that for the Electoral Commission or for General Muhoozi," he added.
Mr. Mpunga believes Mr. Kyagulanyi harbors a personal vendetta against him, claiming that Mr. Kyagulanyi even hired individuals to attack him in his home district of Masaka.
"The Honorable Kyagulanyi, with all due respect, mobilized people for a month to go to my constituency and speak negatively about me. I have never witnessed him organize and hold a rally to speak against the Electoral Commission," he explained.
