18 suspects are in Police custody in connection to the numerous robberies in Greater Masaka region.

Reports indicate that the suspects were picked up in a joint operation involving officers from the Uganda People's Defense Forces, Uganda Police Force and Police Flying Squad.

The Greater Masaka Region Police Commander, 

Latif Zaake, indicates that some of the suspects are directly connected to the recent robberies and raids on resident's homes.

Police have so far recovered a gun that was stolen from Kyanamukaka Police post.

The Greater Masaka Region Police Spokesperson, Diana Nandawula, says they are holding one suspect in connection to the gun theft.

Greater Masaka Region is currently grappling with a new wave crime where at least 20 people have been hacked and injured. The attacks have also claimed the lives of three people since this year begun.   

Over the weekend, thugs dropped anonymous letters warning residents around Masaka municipality to prepare for them money or else they risk being killed. Some of the residents say they are living in fear.
