Tragedy has befallen residents of Katete cell, in Mbarara Municipality after a man locked himself in a house with a girlfriend and set it ablaze.
The unidentified man, in his late 20's reportedly smuggled petrol into a rented room in Katete cell, in Mbarara Municipality last evening. According to area residents, moments later, the house was on fire.
The man was dead by the time police arrived at the scene, while the girl, later identified as Penina Natamba, a former student of Bishop Stuart University was rescued from the inferno although with severe burns and died moments later at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira says that preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had disagreements with the boyfriend who accused her of messing with other men.
Natamba is from Kagango division in Sheema Municipality Sheema district.
