Police in Kiryandongo have in custody three suspects for illegal possession of a firearm.

Vicent Omoroch, Pithuwa Richard and Stephen Kasamba, all residents of Theyagu village Diima parish Mutunda sub county Kiryandongo district were arrested on August 17, 2019 in a joint operation by Police and Uganda Wild Authority wardens.

The arresting officers recovered a Sub machine gun -SMG registration number 9388 with nine rounds of ammunition from the suspects.

According to Julius Hakiza the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, the operation was prompted by a tip off indicating that the suspects had a gun.

Hakiza says the suspects led the officer to an anthill in the same village where they had buried the gun. Police recovered the firearm and immediately whisked the suspects to Kiryandongo central police station where they are currently being detained.
