Police in Arua have arrested a 47-year-old man for attempting to disarm a soldier during a scuffle at an army detachment.

Adiga is a former inmate at Lira Prison convicted of murdering his wife and released on July 29, 2010, after serving an 18-year jail sentence.

Johnson Adiga, a resident of Vura village, Lamila Parish in Maracha District, stormed the Ayivuni detach at the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo in Ayivu division, armed with an Axe and Machete and reportedly sneaked in and attacked a UPDF soldier at his grass thatched house and attempted to grab his gun.

The soldier (names withheld) fought back and made an alarm as he tried to guard his firearm but got injured in the process. Adiga tried to flee but was shot on both legs and arms by other soldiers.

Jackson Mayanja, the UPDF 409 Brigade Commander says that they are yet to establish the motive of Adiga.

The suspect and the injured UPDF soldier are currently admitted at Arua Regional Referral Hospital under tight security.
