Christians across the world are today celebrating the Good Friday, a day our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross.

In Uganda, the day is marked by Catholics, Protestants, the Orthodox, and Pentecostals by walking long distances carrying huge crucifixions in the feet of Jesus.

This morning, Christians in different parts of the country started out on the journey, while others are expected to celebrate the day later in the day.

In Kampala, joint Good Friday prayers are ongoing at Nakivubo with Pastors, Catholic Priests, and Anglican reverends in presence

.

At Christ the King Parish, Christians held processions via Nasser road and down town Kampala.

In Mukono, a joint “Way of the Cross” was led by Bishop James Williams Ssebagala of Mukono diocese on behalf of both catholic & Anglican communities.

They all carried crosses throughout the towns and were joined by more and more crowds as they moved further.

In Lira town Protestants prayed and commemorated the way of the cross.

Today is one of the most important and solemn days of the year for the community, to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, his passion and suffering.

Pope Francis will preside over the Good Friday commemoration Friday in Vatican.

On Holy Thursday, Pope Francis broke from his usual practice by washing the feet of refugees rather than prisoners during the Mass of the Lord’s Supper.
