Rapper and longtime musician Viboyo officially joined Bobi Wine's opposition political party, the National Unity Platform, on Thursday this week.
In a statement released on Bobi Wine's Facebook page, he thanked the musician for taking the decision to join politics and for placing much trust in NUP.
Bobi Wine explained Viboyo is a big addition to the struggle and someone who will bring much-needed knowledge and expertise in bringing the dictator down.
He also reminisced about their early years in the music industry and the struggles they went through for a big breakthrough in music.
"We call each other OB, not because we attended the same primary or secondary school, but because we went through the school of ‘hard knocks’ together.
We started out as teenagers at the Park View/Pub Texas karaoke and talent night with DJ Jim and DJ Jeff in 1997. Together we led the protest of young artists against exploitation and mistreatment of the performing artists, which got us both suspended from performing for a month for inciting a successful strike. We remained comrades to the present day.
Today I was so honored to receive Viboyo OweyoMusic at the NUP headquarters, who came over not just to visit his old friend but to officially join the party. Many people have joined us in the past but with you bro, I feel like a thousand people joined us, all wrapped into one person—you!
Thank you for always being outspoken about the misrule in our country. Thank you for today’s gesture which is, in many ways, a vote of confidence in me and the party. Let’s go!" Bobi Wine partly wrote.
Viboyo confirmed the news of joining NUP and explained he is honored to have been received by the President and its Secretary-General, David Lewis Rubogoya.
