The head of the arts and entertainment sector in the National Unity Platform, Ali Buken, also known as Nubian Li, has confirmed his aspiration for the Nakawa mayoral position.
Nubian Li is seeking to lead the division and believes that with the support of the party president, he will overwhelmingly be voted into leadership.
His announcement has since sparked controversy within Nakawa division. National Unity Platform leaders in Nakawa believe Nubian Li is inexperienced and that there are other people in the area more suitable for the position.
"He should have gone through different stages to reach the mayoral position, just as it has been with other leaders. There are very capable people in Nakawa who can lead us at the division," a NUP supporter said, criticizing Nubian Li's bid.
Others have called upon the party to organize free and fair primaries for the position, reasoning that the party is people-centered and should allow its members to decide their leader.
Despite Bobi Wine's support, Nubian Li still faces stiff competition from Paul Mugambe, who is the current Mayor and remains interested in the position.
