The eighth edition of the Bayimba International Festival of the Arts which was opened on Friday has seen a mammoth of cultural lovers rock the place to celebrate African acts and performances in their works!
In short, Bayimba is a multi-discipline festival where revelers come to experience things like visual art and poetry, with a larger extent of music.
The programming for this year’s festival attracted a number of ethno contemporary acts including Joel Sebunjo alongside Aly Keita, Msafiri from Tanzania, Bado from Kenya, Daniel Okiror and Saba Zibula, among others.
But there were also crowd pleasers from Uganda’s pop culture that included Radio and Weasel, Sheebah Karungi, Madox Sematimba and gospel artiste Levixone Lala.
The National theater, which has been the festival’s venue since the second edition, was a hive of activities from 9am as the Foursum Drama group entertained Literature students with John Ruganda’s The Burdens.
Maddox Ssematimba turned up as an early highlight on Friday at 7:00pm. He was a highlight because he is Maddox, a genius who rarely takes to such a big stage. He simply sauntered onto the main stage (in the parking lot of National Theatre), performed four songs and left.
Other musicians like Levixone and rapper Saint Nelly-Sade performed and proved to the masses that they are really big.
But it was on Saturday that saw Uganda’a diva Sheebah light up proceedings with her energetic performances. She did not only entertain the crowd, she also mesmerized the fans with her erotic dance moves that left people saying---she is the best female performer in Uganda.
