Ugandan artistes are planning to boycott NTV Uganda overcharging them exorbitant fees. They claim NTV management makes them pay a lot of money to play their music and also appearing for interviews on the music shows.
Some artists have threatened to name the TV presenters who ask hefty sums of money for their music to be played. It is reported that “save the Ugandan Music” group is behind the boycott plans.
Social Media critics have come out to defend NTV on this matter. Some say that other TV stations like Bukedde TV, charge abnormal fees compared to NTV. They claim that for a song to be played on Bukedde TV, one has to pay a lot of money.
It is also reported that the musicians and promoters spearheading the campaign “save the Ugandan Music” have advised artistes to come together and fight Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) team from exploiting them.
They claim they collect money from clubs, bars, TVs and Radio stations among other places but they have never benefited from the organization. They are demanding that UPRS stops collecting money on their behalf because they don’t add anything to the music industry.
