For the New Year, people look out for new things.
It is this force that is driving Club Silk to think outside the box and come up with fresh ideas for its monthly theme nights that can keep their clients interested. Last Thursday was the first unplugged night of the year.
Certainly the night which has been happening for the last eight years (every last Thursday of the month) needs a makeover. The only problem is that there may not be many choices to pick from for a concept like this, which has seen almost every artiste unplugged more than once.
Well, the club decided to move away from its idea of unplugging just a single artiste to lining up more than one in a sort of competition.
The club had lined up Renah Nalumansi, Leilah Kayondo and new girl on the block Fille Mutoni. Having a cocktail of artistes provides revellers with variety of entertainment.
For the first time, messages went out on social media, urging people to have the unplugged poster as their Facebook and WhatsApp profile picture to get free access before 11pm. The move worked; the club was buzzing with people by 10pm.
The show started with an interview of all three girls, each speaking about their musical journey.
UB5 band kept its place of backing the artistes. Fille started it off with, Shortem, I Need You and then a rendition of Mafikizolo’s Ndihamba Nawe.
Costume wise, she was on spot and vocally, she disapproved many who thought she couldn’t sing live. Renah, who is now under Suudi Entertainment label, came on with her new tracks: Nanyini City, Ndimugumu, Because Of You and Nsubiza, a duet with Benie Vata. She left the stage for Leilah who sang Kiruma Nnyo, Guluma and Nsubire.
The girls returned for the second round, with Renah having the crowd cheering as she took us back to her Dream Galz days with songs like Weekend and I Love You. Despite having no hit songs at the moment, she proved her vocals were still a force to reckon with.
It was Leilah’s turn but it was like she was vocally exhausted while doing Kuzina Nawe, crowd favourite Awo Wenkugamba and Morning Breakfast. She also unveiled her new video shot in Dubai for her single Amazing.
Fille crowned the night with the songs that made her the darling of 2013; Her Got No Money and Where Have You Been Now. Vampino joined her to do the remix.
Her stage performance has really improved given how she kept everyone captivated as she capped the night with her new song, Dalla.
