Some opposition leaders have this morning paid a visit to former presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye at Luzira upper prison where he is on remand.
Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and FDC Spokesperson Hon. Ssemujju Nganda paid Besigye a visit and said they were extremely disheartened to see him clad in a yellow uniform and being subjected to what Lukwago termed as dehumanizing and humiliating treatment.
“He decried the deplorable conditions as the prison is inordinately congested. The capacity of the said facility, that was constructed by the colonial administration in 1927, was supposed to be 600 inmates but they are over 3000 now,” Said Lukwago.
He added that “We had a chat over a wide range of national issues, details of which I may not be in position to divulge on this platform but he appeared to be strong, resolute and steadfast.”
The officials went bearing gifts including food, since Besigye insists on cooking for himself in prison, for fear of being poisoned.
