The State Minister for Internal Affairs Obiga Kania, has directed West Nile police to arrest and handle mob justice suspects with maximum force.
Kania was speaking during the 54 Independence Day celebrations at Arua police grounds on Sunday, when he noted with concern the increase of mob justice in West Nile region.
He argued that some people in the region have taken it upon themselves to kill those accused of witchcraft and poisoning others instead of handing them to the authorities.
Referring to the recent clashes at Ediofe Cathedral in Arua Diocese where Christians raided the church and destroyed property, Kania said some people want to challenge the decision of government to deploy officers to protect church from the raid by angry Christians.
He warned those opposed to Rt. Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki, the Bishop of Arua diocese to opt for dialogue as opposed to using violence to resolve their grievances.
Kania ordered the West Nile Region Police Commander Ibrahim Saiga, and Arua District Police Commander, Jonathan Musinguzi to use maximum force on mob justice suspects.
"Police must take control of security and consider my directive as minister in charge of security to see that bloodshed via mob action is stopped," said Kania.
