The police in Kaberamaido district have in custody eight people including a village chairperson for suspected robbery.
The suspects are Raymond Emaku, the Alongotar village LC I Chairperson, Joseph Elweu, Robert Emesu, William Olet, Joseph Elesu, Phoebe Erapu, Lucy Abeda and Joseph Olila, all from Kakure Sub County.
These were picked up by Police on accusations of raiding the home of David Erebu in Amoru village in Kalaki Sub County to avenge the killing of their son, Erick Ecingu on Saturday last week. Ecingu was lynched on suspicion of attempting to steal a cow from Erebu's kraal.
Ahmed Madri, the Kaberamaido District Police Commander, says in addition to killing Ecingu, some of the mob members looted three cows, two goats and sheep belonging to Erebu.
Joseph Orebea resident of Kalaki Sub County has asked police to conduct intensive policing to discourage residents from engaging in mob justice, which is common in the area.
At least two people have been killed in Kaberamaido district by angry mob members within a space of two weeks. Recently, a 20-year-old man was killed by his family members for allegedly stealing a cow from their home.
