With an aim of improving on the skills of its employees, China Communications Construction Company’s Soroti-Moroto Project held an occupational skills contest in May, 2017. The contest geared towards improving the skills of local CCCC employees and stimulating their initiative to study and practice had 25 laboratory employees participate, however 12 excellent contestants competed in the final.

According to Mr Ma Zhiqiang the project manager CCCC Soroti-Moroto, the contest had project employees competing in Laboratory skills, writing and operation exercises. Mr Ma also added that the contest will be held every year as it has proven to be helpful to the employees.

“We tested the contestants on their intelligence and unique skills. They are all good, that is why we went for such measures. We shall be doing this every year as refresher training for our employees,” said Mr Ma.

Operation contest is a technical contest on the scientific measurements of soil compaction and moisture. The lab test contest contains procedures for the determination of soil density and it’s done within a given time period. The written contest was aimed at helping the employees to minimise on errors they commit in the process of making scientific calculations in the laboratory.

Jakisa Moses Jasisa emerged the best out of the entire lot and was awarded a certificate and a cash prize worth shs150, 000.

 

 The Soroti-Moroto Road is located in North Eastern Uganda in an area commonly known as the Karamoja region. The road runs from the Teso College which approximately six (6) kms from the centre of Soroti town. The route covers a total length of approximately 100 Km and forms an important link in the national road network and contributes significantly to the economic prosperity of north-east Uganda.
