You remember the famous rebel MPs who made news a few years ago after being expelled from the ruling NRM party for going against party policies! Well, the four defiant men are back, and this time with a bang.
The four; Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga), Muhammad Nsereko (Kampala Central), Barnabas Tinkasimire (Buyaga West), Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa East) have re-eforced and admitted new members, Felix Okot Ogong (Dokolo South), and John Baptist Nambetsye (Manjiya County), among others.
These held a press conference at Parliament on Wednesday morning and swore to stop the campaign launched by NRM MPs on Tuesday, to allow president Museveni luxury to stand for presidency after clocking 75.
Under article 102 (b) of the 1995 constitution, President Yoweri Museveni would not be eligible to contest for the Presidency in 2021, when Ugandans return to the polls. Born in 1944, Museveni who has ruled Uganda for more than 30 years will hit the limit before the next presidential election. However, the plan mooted by NRM legislators would allow Museveni to contest for the presidency at 77.
Kampala Central MP, Muhammad Nsereko says those supporting the removal of the presidential age limit must be isolated and detested alongside President Museveni who is not speaking directly on the matter. He says it is disgusting that Cabinet Ministers and MPs sold the country for a few packets of salt.
Buyaga West MP Barnabas Tinkasimire adds that they are ready to fight to restore sanity in NRM.
Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo said it is shameful that Ugandan MPs have to walk with their heads down because of the actions of their counterparts who have failed to protect and uphold the Constitution of the Republic Of Uganda.
Dokolo South MP Felix Okot Ogong, Manjiya County MP John Baptist Nambetsye and Ndorwa East MP Wilfred Niwagaba jointly committed to mobilizing Ugandans to show the world, that the peoples will still counts.
Mukono municipality MP Betty Nambooze called upon Ugandans to reject the proposed amendment. She challenged those pushing for the amendment to think about the future of Uganda as opposed to their selfish interests.
