Authorities in neighboring Kenya have imposed a curfew ahead of the swearing in ceremony of self imposed people’s president Raila Odinga, the leader of opposition National Super Alliance, NASA.
Odinga will be sworn in today alongside his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka at Uhuru Park where police has been heavily deployed since last night.
Fred Matiangi, the Cabinet secretary interior and coordination of national government of Kenya issued a public order Act instructing all Kenyans in the areas comprised in Nairobi County to remain indoors from 10PM on Monday, to 6PM today Tuesday 30th January 2018.
In a statement, Matiangi adds that only people with written permits granted by their respective deputy county commissioner will be allowed to move from their homes.
“This order shall apply to areas comprised in Nairobi county, during the hours between 10:00pm 29th to 6:00pm 30th January 2018. Every person who resides within the above mentioned shall, except in accordance with the terms and conditions of a written permit granted by their respective deputy county commissioner, remain indoors in their premises at which they reside or at such other premises as may be authorized” Matiangi wrote.
After 2016 Ugandan presidential election, opposition leader Col.Dr. Kiiza Besigye pulled the same move and was charged with treason.
Odinga, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s main rival challenged the 2017 election in Court, but refused to take part in the re-run which was ordered by the Chief Justice.
