During his last days in office, former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura issued a memo, ordering all police officers to desist from sharing information with other security organs. This is different from what newly appointed Minister for Security, General Elly Tumwine, believes can build security in the country. Tumwine says that only collaboration will cure insecurity.
While interacting with journalists at Parliament this afternoon, immediately after his appearance before the Appointments Committee chaired by Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, Tumwine said there is need for leaders and all Ugandans to work together for the country's security
The General assured Ugandans that he is going to work together with other security heads in the country to ensure that the prevailing insecurity in the country is solved.
Asked about streamlining intelligence sharing between security institutions, Tumwine said that the glitches are to be solved.
Tumwine was on Sunday appointed minister for security by president Museveni, replacing Lieutenant-General Henry Tumukunde, who has been in the docket since June 2016. Singing his favourite song 'Kino Kyekisela' Tumwine promised to continue with his music and art.
