Uganda police force has unveiled a number of safety tips parents should observe to deliver their children to school without harm.
While speaking to the media at CPS this morning, Emilian Kayima, the police spokesperson said that parents must be vigilant to avoid road accidents.
“Motorists have been mobilized to avoid reckless driving, over speeding, and using vehicles that are not road worthy. Traffic operations will focus on this and no stoned will be left unturned in the enforcement of the Traffic and Road Safety Act. Expect no mercy” Kayima warned.
Also with the rise in the number of kidnaps, parents have been advised to deliver children to school personally. Also, schools are advised to have a clear system of receiving and handing over children to avoid criminal elements picking their victims. The force warns that schools will be held responsible for these inadequacies or criminal intentions.
“Access control at schools, clarity of who has authority over picking these school children should be clear to the school authorities and individuals, class teachers and all staff. We advise schools to make use of our offices to interact with the students so that we empower them and create awareness among teachers and learners, hence strengthen safety” Kayima noted.
Also, in case of any incident, schools and parents are advised to respond early, and “for those planning self kidnaps, we shall prosecute them in accordance with the law” Kayima warned.
