Leaders across the world have been called upon to walk the talk and lead by example if they are to stir and instill moral values in their subjects. Fr. Simon Lokodo the state minister for ethics and integrity made the call.
Lokodo was speaking at the sidelines of the Global Peace and Leadership conference at Speke Resort Munyonyo, during the parliamentary dialogue session. The ongoing session is under the chairmanship of Deputy speaker of the parliament of Uganda Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanya
According to Lokodo, leaders in the 21st century are unethical, most of them corrupt and practicing dictatorship.
“Leaders must walk the talk, do as I do not as I say, take action so that they can stir and instill peace and unity among people they lead. I am afraid that unethical leaders characterize the 21st century. Leaders have been accused of being in power to rule and not care for their subjects, being corrupt. Leaders, accused of dictatorship, leaders who have left pain and not happiness. The world is looking for loving and caring leaders who promote good purpose to renew our world and society” Lokodo said.
Gen. Elly Tumwiine the security minister said Uganda’s education at the family level influences what is done by an individual there after. He added that peace starts with individuals who live in society.
“There is this danger of how we value what is wealth. A country should be respected on the basis of morals of its people not money. What is your individual role? For every individual, the world is not the same” Tumwiine said.
Members from the Tanzanian parliament led by Prof. Ann Tibaijuka who called for peace in homes, and several members from the Koreas also attended the session.
