Government has been advised to let Ugandans do whatever they want, instead of trying to silence them. This advice was offered by Former Presidential Candidate Dr Kiiza Besigye at his home in Kasangati, moments before his arrest eaerlier this morning.
Dr Besigye was reacting to the preventing arrest of himself, the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, FDC strong woman Ingrid Turinawe and Hon. Allan Ssewanya, whose homes were put under security siege on Thursday morning.
This was meant to prevent the outspoken opposition leaders from going to Gulu where Kyadondo East MP Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu appeared before two courts.
Besigye while addressing the press at his home in Kasangati argued that the repeated arrests of opposition leaders will not silence the public. He would later be arrested by security operatives that surrounded his home and driven off to Nagalama police station where he still remains.
“Cutting off ten people is not cutting off 40 million people. So people wherever they are, they must be able to do what they can every place they are. Trouble cannot depend on Besigye, Ingrid, Lukwago, Ssewanyana, a few home that are being barricaded” he said.
The former presidential candidate said struggle is for every Ugandan and instead of all people focusing eyes on him, they should do what is necessary to reclaim their freedom. He also laughed off at people asking why he slept at his home, well knowing it would be barricaded by morning.
Besigye remains at Nagalama police station.
