Uganda will on Tuesday October 9th 2018 commemorate her 56th Independence Day. The national ceremony will be held at Kasasa Sub county in Kyotera district, under the theme; “Celebrating the achievements of 56 years of independence.”
But as has been the norm over the years, the main opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change, FDC has announced it will hold parallel events to commemorate the day.
The ceremony will be held at FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi starting at 10am. This was announced by Hon. Ssemujju Nganda, the party spokesperson during the Monday party press briefing.
Hon. Nganda said the event will help party members reflect on the aspirations of the forefathers who fought to bring independence to the country.
“A number of experts have already been contacted to come and give several lectures on the independence. We will also reflect on how we lost that power to MR. Museveni and his gun and stick wielding groups” Nganda said.
He added that the party will look forward to getting solutions on how to reclaim power back to the people. He invited police deputy spokesperson Patrick Onyango in particular and members of the public.
“The general public is therefore invited to attend. As a party, we are not celebrating because there is nothing to celebrate; we are remembering 9th October 1962.
Patrick Onyango for the Uganda police force, you are welcome to Najjanankumbi! On this note, we are not asking for permission to be at out headquarters” Nganda concluded.
