There was no foul play in the death of an Indian National at Fairway Hotel, police has said.
The body of Vikrant Sangir was found hanging on a rope inside Fairway hotel room 2204 last weekend a day after he had been reported missing by his colleagues.
According to Luke Owoyesigire the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson says that although they found a suicide note written by Sangir indicating that no one should be blamed for his death, the investigators had to rely on CCTV footage to establish whether anyone entered his room.
However, after CCTV reviews, it was confirmed that no person entered Sangir’s room.
Sidharth Shyams, and Sharma reported at Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) that Sangir had left their workplace in Old Kampala for treatment at Norvik Hospital along Bombo Road but did not return.
According to preliminary investigations led by CPS homicide team, Sangir checked in at Fairway hotel around 10:44 am on August 8, 2019. The next day, the hotel staff gave him extra hours to check out, in vain.
Hotel management was forced to open the room around 1 pm only to find the deceased’s body hanging on a rope. Police rushed to the crime scene after being alerted by Fairway hotel management.
Sangir was a businessman and resident of Old Kampala along Martin Road in the Kampala Central Division. The deceased operated a hardware shop along Nabugabo Road together with other Indians including Sharma.
Detectives interviewed Sangir’s relatives and friends to understand what could have prompted him to take his own life but the interview details could not be discussed.
