The National carrier, Uganda National Airlines Company Limited has been urged to offer tickets at a cheaper fare to Ugandan and Burundian Soldiers serving in Somalia under AMISOM.
The call was made by Gen. Katumba Wamala the state minister for works and transport, during a launch cocktail for Uganda Airline’s first Commercial flight to Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi.
On Monday afternoon at exactly 4:30pm Burundi time, the Aircraft flight No.UR360 landed at Melchoir Ndadaye International Airport with a delegation led by Gen. Katumba Wamala.
During a cocktail party thrown by their Burundian counterparts, the minister said it was a great milestone having Uganda Airlines flights across the region, especially Somalia.
He added that in 2007 when Ugandan soldiers went to Somalia, no one would have thought that things would change to what the condition has become today.
He therefore urged Uganda Airlines management to consider offering ticket at a subsided amount as a token of appreciation for Ugandan and Burundian soldiers who are serving in Somalia under AMISOM as they take holidays.
The launch of this flight to Bujumbura follows a series of successful launches of commercial flights to Nairobi, Juba, Mogadishu and Dar es Salaam on 28th, 29th and 30th August, respectively. Bujumbura becomes the 5th official destination to which Uganda Airlines flies.
The airline will on November 11th, 2019, launch flights to Mombasa and Kilimanjaro. This will be just days after receipt of two more CRJ 900 Aircraft that are expected to arrive in the country next week on Monday October 7th.
The CEO, Uganda Airlines, Mr. Cornwell Muleya noted in his speech, “It’s been a month since Uganda Airlines commenced commercial operations with direct flights to 4 destinations out of our hub in Entebbe. It has been an exciting experience thus far and we look forward to serving the region with our timely service.
He added; “We are glad to be joining our partners like Ethiopian Airways, Kenyan Airways, Rwanda Air and Tanzanian Airways in providing uninterrupted cargo and passenger services.”
