Man Arrested with Ivory in Kisoro

Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson says the suspect was arrested on Wednesday following a tip off from a concerned citizen in Bunagana town council.

The Police in Kisoro have in custody a 30-year-old man identified as Munyaribanje Richard, resident of Bunagana T/Council, who was found in possession of wildlife species of Elephant Ivory weighing 43kgs.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson says the suspect was arrested on Wednesday following a tip off from a concerned citizen in Bunagana town council.

Trade in ivory and other elephant products was banned at the 1989 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) following the massive killing of elephants in Africa.

According to Maate, it is not yet clear though, where the suspect got this ivory and inquiries will continue.
