Prime Minister Rugunda goes into self-isolation as COVID19 Cases hit 557 

Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has gone into self-isolation after some of his contacts tested positive for Coronavirus. On his twitter handle this morning, Dr. Rugunda announced that whereas he tested negative, he has to self-isolate.

Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has gone into self-isolation after some of his contacts tested positive for Coronavirus. On his twitter handle this morning, Dr. Rugunda announced that whereas he tested negative, he has to self-isolate. 

“Friends, I have gone into self-isolation after some of my contacts tested positive for COVID19. My own test result is negative, however, I have taken this decision as a health recommended measure” he wrote.

This morning, the ministry of health announced that 35 new cases of Coranavirus were confirmed on Thursday, bringing the total number to 557. All are Ugandans.
15 cases are among samples taken from different points of entry, while 20 are among the alerts and contacts.

2,267 samples were tested on 4th June 2020. 1,412 samples were from Borders and 855 were from alerts and contacts. 

Of the confirmed cases, 7 were truck drivers from South Sudan who entered via Elegu point of entry, 2 truck drivers from Kenya via Busia point of entry, 3 from Lia, Malaba and Oraba points of entry, 2 members of security from Elegu point of entry, one of the confirmed cases is a truck driver who arrived via Ngomokomo, Gulu district.

The alerts and contacts cases include; 7 from Kampala, 5 from Amuru, 3 from Mayuge, 2 from Kyotera, 1 from Wakiso, 1 from Dokolo and 1 from Amolatar Districts.

Uganda’s COVID19 case count stands at 557, 82 recoveries and 0 deaths.
Among the cases confirmed on 3rd June, was a nurse at Mulago hospital. The ministry has been testing all its employees and health workers. Journalists who have been covering the pandemic have been urged to go to Mulago and be tested, but many say, they fear the swab test.
