The Police in Rukungiri district have launched an investigation into circumstances under which a 43-year-old Primary School head teacher committed suicide.
Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional police spokesperson identified the deceased as Kenneth Mushoborozi, the head teacher of Kyamutariga Primary school in Kebisoni Sub County and a resident of Kihunga village, in Buyanja Sub County.
Mushoborozi allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Saturday night and his body was discovered by Kenneth Ashoborora his son, in their shop in Nshungyezi trading centre on Sunday.
According to Ashoborora who sleeps in the quarters of his father’s shop, he was surprised when he tried to wake up his father to open the shop as usual and got no response. He then alerted his elder brother Benjamin Mubangizi and the neighbors about the unusual incident, which prompted them to break the locks for the shop.
Mushoborozi has been battling a mental illness which they suspect could have forced him to commit suicide.
Maate notes that they have launched investigations into the matter.
More than 10 teachers have committed suicide since the beginning of COVID-19 lock down when the schools were closed and they stopped receiving salaries.
