Aspirants vying for local council positions who have not been nominated as at the end of the process today Thursday October 1, 2020, still have a chance as the Electoral Commission has extended the exercise to October 5, 2020.

The exercise which started on September 21 was due to end today, October 1 in all the 146 districts across the country, but the numbers overwhelmed the electoral commission, forcing them to extend it.

Paul Bukenya the acting spokesperson for Electoral Commission said recently, that the numbers are a great thing as they indicate that Ugandans, especially young people are now involved in the electoral processes.

He also explained that they were overwhelmed by the numbers due to many aspirants on Independent tickets who wanted to book symbols and become the first to be nominated.
Now, EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi says the extension will run from Friday, October 2nd to Monday, October 5th including Saturday and Sunday.

Justice Byabakama in his statement noted that the nomination exercise will continue to be conducted at the same venues during the above period, beginning at 9.00 a.m. each day.
