The Uganda Peoples Defense Forces and government at large are mourning their own, Deputy Government spokesperson Col. Shaban Bantariza who died Tuesday morning at Mulago National referral hospital.
Ofwono OPondo the Executive Director Uganda media centre, says his deputy was admitted to Mulago on Sunday evening with hypertension.
“The Executive Director, Ofwono Opondo with deep sorrow announces the death of his Deputy, Col Shaban Bantariza that occurred early this morning at Mulago Hospital where he had been in admission since Sunday evening with hypertension” the media centre says.
The army Spokesperson Brig. FLavia Byekwaso Col. Bantariza’s also confirmed Bantariza’s death on twitter.
“The UPDF family with great sadness have learnt of the passing on of the deputy Executive director of Uganda media centre and deputy government spokesman Rtd Col Shaban Bantariza at Mulago national referral hospital. May his soul rest in peace” Byekwaso wrote.
He served as the deputy director of the Uganda Media Centre and deputy government spokesperson, since June 2015.
Many Ugandans on social media have however showed mixed reactions over his passing, with some celebrating, claiming he was always mean towards opposition leaders, especially Bobi Wine.
