At least 94 supporters of National Unity Platform-NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi who were arrested in Kalangala on Wednesday are still in detention as the party legal team works to get them free.
On Wednesday, the NUP members were arrested alongside their presidential candidate who was airlifted to Kololo and later driven home.
While Kyagulanyi is free and back on the campaign trail, Muhammad Nsubuga, the Acting Police spokesperson Greater Masaka Region says 50 people are being held at Masaka Central Police Station and the others at Kalangala Central Police Station.
The suspects according to Nsubuga, will be charged with inciting violence, flouting measures to combat the spread of coronavirus (COV1D-19) while some are accused of deflating tyres of police vehicles. The police officers are currently compiling their files and will then be submitted to the state.
Kyagulanyi was on Wednesday expected to campaign in Kyamuswa County areas including Kachanga- Kacungwa in Mazinga Sub County, Kisaba, Namisoke and Misonzi and Kalangala Town Council at Kaala Playground.
Kyagulanyi says the NUP legal team has been instructed to secure the release of all members who were arrested and bring them back safely to their families.
