
The body of a Kenyan truck Driver who was involved in an accident along Jinja-Iganga highway on New Year's Day has been retrieved from a swamp in Mayuge district.
According to James Mubi, the Busoga East Region Police spokesperson Ibrahim Abedi Yare, a Kenyan citizen was killed in a head on collision involving a Mercedes Benz vehicle registration number UAB 851Y and trailer registration number KAN 825D/ ZD 9796.
He noted that the truck overturned several times and rolled into the valley where it burst into huge flames burning over an acre of a nearby sugarcane plantation.
While the bodies of the accident victims were recovered from the scene, Abedi’s was not.
Police and the army launched a joint operation that lasted two days to recover Abedi’s body from Wandago swamp which was found on Sunday.
A postmortem was conducted on the deceased’s body at Iganga Regional Referral Hospital and the remains handed over to his relative for burial.
