Police are hunting for one of their own officer attached to Iriiri Police Post who went on the run after irregularly releasing a suspect on police bond.

The suspect is Sergeant Joyce Alioro who allegedly released a prime suspect irregularly on Saturday after a burglary and theft offence at Kapuat Primary School in Napak district where thieves stole 58 mattresses and other property kept by the pupils at the school when schools closed for due to covid-19 pandemic.

Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto Police Spokesperson says Sgt. Alioro, the officer in charge of Family and Child Protection Unit reportedly acted upon her own authority to irregularly release a suspect only identified as Aguma, a key suspect in the case.

Aguma has since gone on the run too, to dodge the charges.

Reports indicate that Alioro was tipped off that she was due for arrest on Sunday, and decided to go without leave.

Longole adds that the officer will face the charges of aiding escape of a suspect. She is to face the Police Disciplinary Court once she is apprehended or returns on her own.

He believes continued presence of at least some teachers at school will always decrease instances burglary and theft targeting schools.
