Drama ensued on Thursday morning along Iganga-Bugiri highway when boda bodas blocked the road and paralyzed traffic at Butaba village in Idudi town council in Bugweri district protesting the late arrival of police at the scene where their colleague, Fahad Kisambira was knocked dead.
The incident happened this morning when Kisambira was ferrying dry cassava from Mayuge district to Busia border on a Kenyan registered motorcycle.
However, after waiting for close to an hour before police showed up to the scene, the angry motorists forced drivers to stop and pelted with stones those who declined to heed to their directive.
According to Mohammed Bashir a truck driver who witnessed the incident, Kisambira was riding at breakneck speed when he sustained a flat tire and rammed into one of the trucks.
Although the accident occurred around 9:30 am. police didn’t show up until after more than 45 minutes. The riders want police to expedite its response to accident cases along the highways, saying delays affect the entire transport chain.
Diana Nandawula the Busoga East police spokesperson, said that their traffic unit ensures timely response to all accident scenes with the aim of ensuring the safety of all road users.
