Police in Rukungiri have arrested two men for their alleged involvement in their mother’s death.

Norah Bitamu an 85-year resident of Nyamambo village, Kibirizi parish Buhunga sub-county in Rukungiri district was strangled to death by assailants suspected to be her own children.
The suspects are Christopher Turyahebwa and John Twinamatsiko both biological sons of Bitamu.

The men and their mother have been bickering over land that the suspects wanted to forcefully grab. The duo also wanted to steal and sell the coffee that was always harvested by the aged parents for survival.

According to IP Elly Maate the PRO Kigezi region, it is alleged that on Sunday 27/02/ 2022 at around 02:00hrs, Peter Kahandana the deceased's husband heard un usual coughing by the deceased who had slept in a different bedroom, and when he woke up in the morning, she was not in the room.

The husband proceeded to church for Sunday prayers only to receive information at about 11:00hrs that a neighbor who had gone to a nearby swamp to collect Papyrus had found the wife dead therein.
The incident was reported to Buhunga Police station which in turn reported to Cps Rukungiri.

Officers led by DCID/O visited and documented the scene. The deceased’s body was taken to Rwakabengo health center III for Postmortem and inquiries are at hand.
