35 students of Fort Portal SS sustained injuries from an accident which occurred on Wednesday evening at around 1900hrs at Kitarasa, Karago town council, Northern Division Fort Portal tourist city.
The students were travelling in a motor vehicle Reg no UAY 114X Isuzu school bus belonging to St. Maria Gorreti SS Virika which had been hired to transport students to Kicwamba technical institute where there was a tournament for school competitions.
However, the bus was taking students back to school when it got involved in a serious accident and left many injured. They were rushed to Buhinga regional referral hospital.
Vicent Twesige the PRO Rwenzori region says five students were critically injured. They have been identified as Kusasira Catherine whose arm was amputated, Mutaremwa William, Kunihira Grace S2, Namara Keren, Nyakake Lydia S6, all the above 5 victims were in the theatre.
Many others were also injured but are steadily improving.
The driver is still at large.
